CHENGDU SMART CITY Smart materials and urban prototypes Chengdu is one of the oldest and currently fastest growing cities in China. The pace of expansion presents urban designers and planers with a big responsibility. How to design and plan on such an urban scale and how to meet the contemporary demands for sustainable and energy efficient urban form? As a response to these questions, we will explore how a space and an object can be constructed and manufactured. We will study smart materials and develop individual urban prototypes that will be projected into the fifth ring of Chengdu to create a Low Carbon Incubator - a vision for a sustainable future. We will encourage students early on to develop their own thesis to use the architectural and urban design to conduct both research and create a vision of a Smart City.
