Conscious-City-Lab SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHED AT METSOL: WRAP UP & PHOTOS

Conscious-City-Lab at MetSol 2015

During the Metropolitan Solutions, 20-22 May 2015, CHORA city & energy successfully launched the first working prototype of the Conscious-City-Lab - a multi-media installation and planning-support tool for Smart City Berlin.

Conceived as a giant cube of ten metres height and accessible from all sides, the TU Conscious-City-Lab provides a temporary public space for smart city planning. With the help of an interactive table and game cards, experts could discover over 300 projects and aspects of Smart City Berlin.

Conscious-City-Lab was also host to a diverse LUNCH TALK program on all three conference days, bringing together and presenting for the first time the whole breadth of smart city research at TU Berlin. Representatives of over 20 institutes took part touching on a variety of issues such as participation, big data, health, water, e-mobility, or smart grids. There were two special sessions involving representatives of Berlin's sites of the future ("Zukunftsorte") and the major utility companies Vattenfall (energy), BSR (waste), BWB (water), and BVG (mobility) who discussed their experiences in the Climate-KIC-funded project "Metropolitan Utilities Dialogue", in which CHORA city & energy participated as a scientific partner.

All in all, over two dozens high-level delegations visited the Conscious-City-Lab to learn about new participatory approached in Smart City planning, among them including highlights such as Michael Müller, the Governing Mayor of Berlin and Violeta Bulc, EU Commissioner for Transport.

Over three days, some 4,000 experts from science and industry plus decision-makers and government officials from cities around the world gathered at the CityCube complex to discuss new ways of making cities more sustainable, internationally competitive and livable.

WE THANK ALL OUR SPONSORS & PARTNERS...

We also thank all speakers and participating Professors of the TU Smart City Platform! We would especially like to thank T-Labs and TU Fachgebiet Lichttechnik for their technical support, and the Wasserbauhalle for enabling us to set-up the Conscious-City-Lab prototype.
